Dr. Sam Johnson took my phone call and was readily available to answer all my questions concerning a situation that quickly became a crisis-my beloved horse had a severe choke. Tubing only exacerbated the situation and confirmed the need for a scope and the next level of intervention.
Due to the severity of the choke, I didn't have a lot of time to evaluate the circumstances any further.
Dr. Sam Johnson treated my mule, Shorty, and I was so pleased with the time he took to diagnose and discuss treatment options. Dr. Johnson really impressed me with his knowledge, communication skills, and the care and respect he showed both of us. He also followed-up to see how Shorty was coming along with his recovery, an overall very positive experience.
I trailered him to Glenwood, making the 2 hours trip feeling confident that he had a chance, following the conversation I had with Dr. Johnson. It took a lot of fluids, scoping and tubing but Dr. Johnson and his assistants were able to remove the obstruction.
The staff here is amazing! We had a very sick goat due to stones in the urethra, which can be fatal very quickly. I called to see what our options were, as this has happened before with other goats, and the surgery was astronomically expensive. Dr. Johnson was able to talk me through a few things, and we ended up taking him into the clinic where they did a complicated surgery and kept him overnight for about 1/4 of what we had been charged with other surgeons, and now we have a very happy, very healthy goat back at home. They even provided him with hay overnight, as we forgot to bring some to the clinic. Dr. Pollock also followed up with me several times to make sure he was doing well, after the initial call and after the surgery.
Today, my horse is on the mend. I am so thankful that Dr. Johnson was encouraging and I was able to put a horrible situation into such capable hands. Dr. Johnson's daily messages kept me updated on how my horse was doing, I felt comfortable leaving him at the clinic. I really contribute my horse surviving to the Glenwood Vet Clinic's staff. Thank you Dr. Sam Johnson!
My horse colicked on Sunday, Sam Johnson from the Glenwood Veterinary Clinic, traveled from Silt to treat her. He did so with respect and caring, very personable, great instructions and follow through. I would definitely call on him again. My horse is fine.
Vets were on-site and agreed to look at my stone-bruised horse. Four-hundred dollars later they were able to agree with my diagnosis that she probably just needed some rest. I think they are used to ripping off the aspen crowd. Couldn't get straight answers about why I never received my lab tests or why they thought it necessary to charge so much for a 5 minute consult. Definitely would not recommend if you are looking for reasonable vet services.
Highly recommended for large animals!
