I have been going to this shop for over 30 years.
The next time I brought it in, the lower engine cover had come off partially. Ended up with a $100 charge to remove (not replace) the darn thing. Bear in mind, I have had this problem on other cars, and the mechanics have just taken it off for free.
They were nice and responsive and talked me into spending over $11,000 on a bunch of repairs (car's original purchase price was $22,000!) Two months later, a part fell off the car, the speedometer stopped working, and the issue that started it all -- oil leaking -- was back. I called (they had never followed up to see how things were going) and instead of apologizing and offering to immediately look at and fix the problems, they told me it would take 2 and a half weeks to get me in. I feel very ripped off, to say the least! I now believe that they likely charged at least twice what it should have cost, assuming it were done right.
I have an classic 1987 BMW 325is that I have twice left with European Auto Werks. Charlie has been my main contact both times and I find him very pleasant to deal with, However, on both occasions their service has been extremely slow and I have often waited days to get a call back or update.
John and Wendy ran Sport Wheels until the local Dealer bought that shop to get the very best European assets in town. Now, re-incarnated as European Auto Werks, this is the very best European shop in Glenwood Springs. Negative comments only come from people that do not understand all of the pain and suffering that comes with diagnosing and servicing a fine European auto. It only takes a second to fix the vacuum leak, but the smoke machine used to find it costs close to $2000. So come in and get the very best advice from "Uncle John" and Charley for your European rides.
Very good and experienced Porsche 996 mechanics there. They did a good chunk of work on my 996 and were fantastic to deal with. No surprises and open, honest communication on both their analysis and my feedback on what I wanted to fix. A pleasure to deal with.
On this last visit the process was almost 2 months as we went back and forth over an estimate that I found particularly overpriced. My complaint was the cost of the parts they had quoted at sometimes 3 or 4 times more that other available OEM parts from different suppliers other than BMW. In the end we could not find an agreement to help reduce the cost of the repairs and they then decided it was not profitable enough to do the work on my car. I understand that most repair shops need to make some amount of profit from the supplied parts but I found European Auto Works to be unreasonable and painfully slow. I would not recommend them for service.
Be advised, these guys always do under the minimum job and maximum price. The first time I took my car here to get snow tires put on. It took two days longer than it was supposed to, they didn't align the car because "I needed new control arms." They also tried to tell me that my mass airflow meter had gone bad. I spoke with some other mechanics in the valley, and they said that they had never seen this. All said and done, they tried to upsell me on an additional $1,000 to just get snow tires on my car.
